Commissioning an Original
Although several originals by Art Poulin are currently available, collectors frequently want to commission an original painting of his or her residential home, church, inn or business. Working closely with the client, Art will review high resolution digital images submitted by the client and work collaboratively to identify the best angle and details for the painting. Charming customizations that personalize the painting (such as family gatherings and pets) or offer nostalgia (era details) could easily be accommodated.
The Artwork
All commissioned paintings are created on stretched canvas using high quality acrylic paints. The size of the canvas is at the discretion of the client. However, most typical commissioned works are 24x30 horizontal landscapes that feature one or two structures. When completed, the painting is protected with a varnish using a finish chosen by the client. . The painting is then delivered or Federal Express'ed to the client unframed. Commissioned artwork may not be reproduced without the prior permission from the artist, as explained below.
Licensing of Commissioned Artwork
License agreements are available for churches and businesses who would like to reproduce the image on various media for promotion and/or limited commercial sale. Such items could include note cards, postcards, logos, envelopes, letterhead, brochures and menus. Under no condition will the artist license full reproduction rights for any original.
Pricing
Although there is a wide range of prices for commissioned work depending upon the size of the canvas and detail of the painting, in general commissioned works start around $6,000. A fifty percent deposit is required upon signing the commission engagement agreement with the balance payable upon delivery.
The Adaptability of Giclee
One of the more valued characteristics of Giclee is the ability to reproduce an original to just about any size desired. Most frequently, reproductions are smaller than the original as the reduction in size not only preserves but frequently enhances the details of the painting. Although there are exceptions, the artist recommends no reduction greater than 50% of the original size to ensure the print's quality and integrity. Although enlarging is also done with Giclees, as would be expected, some fine detailing and granularity might be lost depending upon the final size of the print. Extreme resizing in either direction would result in an unacceptable quality of the reproduction which the artist would deem as unsellable.

Substrate and Designation
All custom-size Giclee reproductions will be made on high quality artist paper and delivered unframed. These unique prints will be hand-signed by the artist and will have the designator "CS" in the bottom right or left corner. As they are not artist proofs or part of a limited edition, custom-sized Giclees will not be numbered and will not have an associated Certificate of Authenticity and Limitation.
Sizing and Pricing
Although the size of the print is at the discretion of the client, final dimensions will always have the same width to height ratio as the original. [For example, a resizing of a 34"x42" original will have a 1" to 1.235" ratio, so possible print sizes would be 20"x24.7" or 21"x25.9" and so on. If you would like, you can simply provide the desired width or height and we will calculate the length of the other side.] The author will not release any resized reproduction that is of unacceptable quality. Although each request for a custom-size reproduction will be priced individually, in general, reproductions are approximately $1.50 a square inch plus postage and a handling charge. Full payment is required upon ordering. All sales of custom-sized prints are final.
